Our School - Welcome from our Principal

To all our visitors, welcome to the Port Hedland Primary School website.

The current Port Hedland Primary School was opened in 1998. It was rebuilt at this time as an amalgamation of the original Port Hedland Primary School and the original Cooke Point Primary School. As a result of this rebuilding, the school is modern, well resourced and set in beautifully maintained gardens.
The school prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere and caters for approximately 530 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We offer a comprehensive curriculum with a focus on academic achievement.

Teaching staff are young and enthusiastic and embrace new ideas to ensure that students have access to a high quality education, utilising new technology. Each classroom is equipped with an electronic whiteboard and all classes have access to banks of iPads and computers.

Support staff are an integral part of our school and not only support the teaching and learning programs, but also provide extensive Pastoral Care when needed. All of our staff are committed to ongoing professional learning. In 2014 the expertise of staff (and particularly curriculum knowledge in English) was recognised by the Department of Education with Port Hedland PS being named as a Teacher Development School for 2014-2015. In addition Port Hedland PS gained Independent Public School status in 2015, which will see the school being able to be more responsive to the needs of the community and in particular the students.

We offer many programs to cater for the needs of our students including Visual Art, Physical Education, Science and Information Technology. In addition to these programs we have a very extensive support program in place to cater for students at educational risk, including PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) students. Students also have the opportunity to be involved in Choir, Musical Theatre and Specialist Art.

Once again, welcome to our website, welcome to our school. Yvonne Denham
